彼得·格雷夫斯（Peter Graves）于1926年3月18日出生于明尼苏达州明尼阿波利斯市。在明尼苏达州长大时，他擅长体育和音乐（作为萨克斯手），到 16 岁时，他是明尼阿波利斯 WMIN 的广播播音员。在美国空军服役两年后，他在明尼苏达大学学习戏剧，然后前往好莱坞，在那里他首次出现在电视上，后来在《流氓河》（1951 年）中首次亮相。随后出现了许多电影，尤其是在西部片中。然而，格雷夫斯主要因其电视作品而受到认可，尤其是在《碟中谍》（1966 年）中饰演吉姆菲尔普斯。彼得·格雷夫斯（Peter Graves）于2010年3月14日死于心脏病发作，就在他84岁生日前四天。
