"玛琳·黛德丽，著名影星。父亲是一名皇家警察中尉。父亲的地位让玛琳和她的姐姐度过了一个舒适的童年。1911年，玛琳的父亲去世了，撇下母亲独自扶养两个女儿。父亲的去世给玛琳留下一个长久的阴影。玛琳的童年嗜好是音乐。她喜爱演奏小提琴，并且梦想成为柏林爱乐乐团的职业小提琴手。但后来她的手受了伤，童年梦想也成为泡影。
尽管有很多关于她的谣传，但在1923年，她遇到了电影制片助理卢狄·萨伯,并且嫁给了他。那时候她21岁。一年后他们有了女儿玛丽娅。20世纪20年代中期，演艺事业开始走红，1930年《蓝天使》大获成功，成为国际知名的影星。同年跟派拉蒙签约，并在由斯登堡导演的多部影片中出任主角，与葛丽泰·嘉宝分庭抗礼，一度成为片酬最高的明星。
战后演艺事业开始走下坡，又做回cabaret singer（歌厅歌手），到处巡回演出，甚至推出了一首畅销歌曲《花儿到哪儿去了》。其形象代表着高雅和性感的完美结合，因嗜好男性服装，曾引发时尚潮流，至今仍有人（如麦当娜）模仿，开创一种性别模糊的美。最后的岁月跟当年的对手嘉宝一样隐居，连接受纪录片采访也规定不准摄像，只准录音。"
